Verification system machines in QC school with 2nd largest voting population down

Majority of the Voter Registration Verification System (VRVS) machines at the President Corazon C. Aquino Elementary School in Quezon City were either not working or consistently malfunctioning on Election Day, May 13, said election staff.

Because of this, the staff at the second largest polling place in Quezon City with around 45,000 registered voters were forced to manually verify voters' identities to avoid delay.

According to Lovelle Cap-Atan, one of the support staff at the school, the VRVS was a way to search the voter's identity online to hasten the voting process.

However, majority of the VRVS machines could not even be opened, and the few that were running hung every now and then and took a while to even recognize the data being inputted, said Aldrin Agustin, chairman of Cluster Precinct 300.

"It takes time po. Mas mabilis kung manual na lang," he said. "Abala siya sa voting process. Eh ang daming nakapila pa diyan."

Staff said each VRVS costs around P100,000 pesos. —KG, GMA News
