DOST urges respect for Pisay board’s silence as it decides fate of students

The Board of Trustees of the Philippine Science High School has asked the public to respect its continued silence as regards the controversy confronting the school over the posting of unseemly photos of some its female students.

In a statement, Science and Technology Undersecretary Brenda Nazareth Manzano said the board has yet to reach a final resolution on whether the students who posted the pictures on the internet would be allowed to graduate.

The board earlier decided to allow the six students to graduate next week, a move contrary to the recommendation made by main campus officials after a series of hearings

"No resolution is yet reached and we would like to assure everyone that this matter is not taken lightly," DOST Undersecretary Brenda Nazareth Manzano said.

Some students of the PSHS and their parents on Thursday staged a demonstration at the main campus in Quezon City to demand that the BOT reverse its decision and to express support for the victims.

Manzano said sentiments raised in Thursday's protest rally were "immediately conveyed" Science and Technology Secretary Fortunato Dela Peña, the chair of the BOT.

"The Secretary is committed to uphold due process," she said. —NB, GMA News
