Isko gives police, PDEA one week to clear Baseco of illegal drugs, guns

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on Thursday gave anti-drug authorities in the city one week to clear Baseco Compund of illegal drugs and loose firearms.

Moreno gave the order to the Manila Police District, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority and barangay officials following a meeting with the city's anti-illegal drug council.

"Pag nalinis natin 'yan (Baseco), wala na tayong hindi malilinis sa Maynila,” said Moreno, whose hands-on leadership has been lauded by many, including US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim.

Moreno, who defeated former Mayor Joseph Estrada in the May elections, has earlier voiced support to the government's war on illegal drugs.

A former scavenger who became an actor before entering politics, Moreno said he promised during his campaign that human rights will be respected in his anti-drug campaign. —Tina Panganiban-Perez/KBK, GMA News
