Senior citizen alleges she was poisoned with moth balls

A senior citizen from Muntinlupa wondered that she has been drinking a food supplement as she suffers from various ailments but she does not feel better, according to a report on Stand for Truth.

Remedios Gimena, 76, related that she felt dizzy after taking the food supplement. The following day she took three cups of the same food supplement but this time she noticed a peculiar taste and smell.

"Sabi ko parang naptalina, tapos kinalog ko mayroong kumakalansing. Ang ginawa ko, binuhos ko sa baso. Nakita ko 'yung naptalina, tatlo," Gimena said.

She consulted with a doctor, and in the medical certificate confirmed she drank naphthalene balls.

Naphthalene balls or moth balls are a form of insecticide and if consumed  can cause complications in the blood, kidney, heart, brain and other vital organs.

Other symptoms include nausea, dizziness, and stomach pains. The patient can even be comatose.

The suspect has been identified as Garnet Gallardo, the kasambahay or household helper, who Gimena met through a Facebook group.

The police arrested Gallardo, who said that she was framed for committing the crime.

"Di po ako mamamatay tao. Kahit itanong niyo po doon sa kapit bahay ko sa Navotas. Wala po akong sinaktan kahit sino. May takot po ako sa Diyos," said Gallardo.

However, according to the barangay blotter, Gallardo allegedly admitted to committing the crime.

Gimena, meanwhile, said "Sabi ko hindi. Hindi ko mapapatawad yung ginawa mo. Sabi ko buhay ko ang nakataya roon."

Gallardo will be facing a charge of attempted murder. —BAP/KBK, GMA News
