NCRPO chief Eleazar: Killing of BuCor exec not related to Sanchez controversy so far

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday said the killing of a Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) official was not related to the issue on the possible release of former Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez.

Eleazar told GMA News Online that the slay of BuCor official Ruperto Traya is still being probed.

“Under investigation pa siya... Doon kay Sanchez, wala naman so far nakikitang koneksyon doon,” Eleazar said in a phone interview.

Eleazar said authorities are investigating the alleged involvement of Traya with illegal drugs.

“Ang nakikita nila, masasabi nga daw na iyan ay natransfer sa Leyte dahil may allegation, may sinasabi na involvement sa drugs,” he said.

Traya was about to open the gate of his rented parking lot when an unidentified gunman appeared and shot him on the head. The suspect then immediately fled from the crime scene.

Meanwhile, Philippine National Police spokesman Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said authorities are monitoring any update on the probe. — RSJ, GMA News
