MMDA: Rehab of Pasig River Ferry Service a priority

The rehabilitation of the ferry system in Pasig River is among the priorities of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to improve public mobility, according to its spokesperson Celine Pialago on Thursday.

"Kahit kailan ho hindi nawala sa plano at priority ng MMDA ang pagpapaayos at pagpapaganda ng Pasig River Ferry System natin," Pialago said in an interview on Unang Balita.

"May plano ho ang MMDA na magtayo ng docking facility. Magkakaroon ho tayo ng rehabilitation sa ilang ferry stations," she added.

Further, Pialago said that most of the passenger boats are currently undergoing repair because water hyacinths and garbage from the river had damaged their propellers.

"Kapag operational lahat ang passenger boats natin, 500 na pasahero ang nake-cater nito every day," she said.

To ease the problematic transport situation in Metro Manila, Senator Sonny Angara recently proposed to utilize the Pasig River ferry system.

The senator pointed out that the ferry line can carry passengers from Pasig to Mandaluyong, Makati and Manila.

According to the ferry system's management, only two boats were operational on Wednesday. —Dona Magsino/KBK, GMA News
