Pasay City bans going out of house half-naked

Residents of Pasay City will no longer be allowed to loiter or roam around the streets half-naked as part of the mayor’s bid to improve the reputation of “the gateway to the Philippines."

In a report on 24 Oras on Wednesday, Mayor Imelda Emi Calixto-Rubiano said the updated Pasay City Ordinance 6004 imposes stricter penalties on violators.

“Before, sabi nila, ‘Pasay [is a] sin city,’ but now it’s a travel city kaya naman gusto ko talagang makilala ang aming lungsod hindi lang sa buong Pilipinas kundi sa buong mundo since this is the gateway to the Philippines,” she said.

“Kasi siyempre maganda [kung] disente rin talaga ang aming mamamayan kahit nasa labas lang sila ng kanilang bakuran,” Rubiano added.

Residents who will be caught violating the ordinance will be fined a minimum of P2,000 or ordered to do community service for up to 24 hours.

The ordinance was passed in June, but its implementation was delayed due to the printing of tickets that will be issued to violators.

The ordinance will be strictly implemented ahead of the Southeast Asian Games as some events will take place in Pasay.

The Pasay Environmental Police will be in charge of implementing the ordinance.

Similar ordinances have likewise been passed in Marikina, Quezon City, San Juan, and Muntinlupa. —Julia Mari Ornedo/MDM, GMA News
