All 61 pumping stations operational, says MMDA

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday said all 61 pumping stations in the National Capital Region are operational amid the heavy downpour caused by Typhoon Tisoy.

According to a report on 24 Oras by Tina Panganiban-Perez, MMDA officials inspected the Libertad, Luneta, and Binondo pumping stations to ensure that they are in working order.

However, even though the pumping stations were found to be operational, some streets in the metro were still flooded.

“Talagang ang problema, nakita ninyo, ‘yung basura. Every time na magpa-pump at maraming basura, kailangang tumigil nang isang oras para linisin, ayusin,” said MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim.

Pumping stations pick up waste from waterways and place them on a conveyor belt, which transports the trash to a compound.

Authorities not only found small pieces of trash in the waterways, but even bigger items like bags, baskets, and tires.

“Kailangang maging responsable lang ang ating mga mamamayan dahil para sa kanila ho yan,” said MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
