Over 300 families evacuated in Manila due to Tisoy

Over 300 families in Manila City were forcibly evacuated by authorities on Tuesday due to the onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy, according to a “24 Oras” report by Cedric Castillo.

The Manila City Government also conducted a preemptive evacuation of residents in coastal areas in the morning.

However, authorities were met with resistance from some residents from Barangay Puting Bato.

“‘Pag lumikas kami, pumunta kami kung saan, inaabot po kami ng gutom. Matagal ‘yung ano tapos kulang pa ‘yung bigay ng pagkain,” one resident said.

“Kaya pa naman ang ano e, ang hangin at alon. 'Pag malakas na talaga, lilikas na kami,” another told GMA News.

After downpour became more intense around 2 p.m., members of the Philippine Coast Guard began forced evacuations.

“As per captain dito ng Brgy. Puting Bato, sinabi niya kanina na forced evacuation na 'yung tao dun sa Puting Bato, bandang dulo. Mga bata at mga PWD 'yung priority natin na uunahin mamaya, said Rodgie Bajao of the Coast Guard Civil Relations Service.

The evacuation center at the Delpan Complex currently houses around 1,500 evacuees.

Meanwhile, some streets in Manila like Taft Avenue as well as the Rizal Memorial Stadium were hit by gutter-deep floods.

Metro Manila remains under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2, according to the latest bulletin from state weather bureau PAGASA. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
