Six new PNR coaches arrive from Indonesia

New coaches for the state-owned Philippine National Railways (PNR) have already arrived in the country from Indonesia.

According to a report on Unang Balita, six out of the 37 coaches that were ordered from the Southeast Asian neighbor were recently delivered.

These will be used for the Tutuban-FTI and the Malabon-FTI routes.

"Thirty-one more coaches are set to be delivered from December 2019 to February 2020. These shall form seven train sets of four- and five-car configurations," the Department of Transportation had said.

The headway or interval between train arrivals in PNR stations is expected tol be reduced to 45 minutes starting December 16.

Once all the new coaches from Indonesia are installed, the trains will have a passenger capacity of 145,000 and the commuters' waiting time on the platform will further be reduced to 20 minutes.

A new train set from Japan was also added in the PNR operations earlier this month. —Dona Magsino/KBK, GMA News
