NCR cops rescue 2 Vietnamese from alleged Chinese abductors

Police operatives have rescued two Vietnamese from their alleged Chinese captors in Las Piñas City, the National Capital Region Police Office said Wednesday.

The NCRPO identified the victims as Pha Ti Khim Yin, and Nguyen Thi Than Mai; and the suspects as Li Mu Qin, and Zhao Chao.

Police rescued the victims after complainant Nguyen Anh Hong Trang reported to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group -National Capital Region (CIDG - NCR) that her cousins were being held by the suspects and that the latter were demanding P1 million for the victims' release.

An initial police investigation showed that the victims came to know the suspects through online dating on December 30, 2019.

When the victims went to the boarding house of the suspects, they were allegedly held and forced to contact their relatives to produce P1 million.

Police said one of the victims was able to send her location, prompting authorities to check the area and rescue them.

Authorities nabbed Qin during the operation, but failed to get Chao who remains at large. —Anna Felicia Bajo/LBG, GMA News
