Mayor Isko says Robredo’s statement on drug war unfair

Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso on Tuesday said the statement of Vice President Leni Robredo discrediting the administration’s war on drugs is unfair for responsible police.

On Monday, Robredo, former co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Illegal Drugs (ICAD), said the administration’s drug war is a failure noting that the shabu supply and drug money were reduced by only 1% in the last three years.

“Unfair naman sa enforcement unit who are putting their life on the line. They are willing…We have to be very careful with this kind of statement because it might demoralize them,” Isko said in an interview on ANC.

For him, President Rodrigo Duterte is the only President who went after the drug syndicates.

“It is not being denied, the mass problem, kundi, kinonfront pa. Hindi 'yan biro. Ang problema sa droga ay noon pang dekada setenta,” he said.

“There are parallel agencies who certify a particular barangay that is clear (of illegal drugs). It is hard to achieve especially in Manila,” Moreno admitted.

However, Mayor Isko observed that since he assumed his post, operations of the city police involving drugs were conducted fairly.

“If we will assess, I think we can grade it fairly. We are apprehending people involved in these illegal activities and we identified the areas of concern,” he said.

“In terms of ratio, makikita mo ang risk ng enforcement unit. Biro mo, buhay ang 17 at may namatay na dalawang suspects. So that’s why I can honestly say fair naman ang operation,” he added.

The Manila mayor also cited reports saying more Filipinos feel safer amid the anti-drug war campaign of the administration.

However, he admitted that they can do better. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
