Patients admitted to V. Luna Hospital in QC for nCoV monitoring

Patients have been admitted to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center in Quezon City to be observed for the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV, a top official announced Sunday.

"Sa kasalukuyan po meron tayong PUI din, ito'y naka-isolate sa infectious ward ng Victoriano Luna Medical Center," AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) Health Service Command spokesperson Captain Sherwin Joseph Sarmiento said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

The number of persons being investigated in the medical center, which is also known as the V. Luna General Hospital, has not been disclosed.

Those with travel history to China, Hong Kong, and Macau and exhibit symptoms are identified as persons under investigation (PUI), while those with only travel history are persons under monitoring (PUMs).

"Nagkaroon tayo ng isang isolation na ward which is the infectious ward ng V.Luna Medical Center. Ngayon, sa kaalaman po ng lahat, ang infectious ward ng V.Luna Center ay isang building na nakahiwalay dun sa main bulding ng hospital," he explained.

Three cases of the nCoV have already been confirmed in the Philippines, with the latest being a 60-year-old female Chinese national who has since returned to China.

According to the latest data available, the death toll has risen to 811 in mainland China, the epicenter of the illness.

"Kapag po ano, dito sa atin sa AFP, meron po kaming intended na infectious ward, so isolated ward po 'yun, in-identify namin once PUI or PUM, na-admit po sila tapos may nakadeploy kaming doctors dun na naka-quarantine din," said Sarmiento.

Sarmiento, however, declined to elaborate as he cited privacy concerns.

"Ang bilin sa amin ng PAO, AFP, hindi rin kami makapagbigay ng figure, at the same time kung 'yung classification nila, kung military or dependent," he explained. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
