NCRPO recalls memorandum on alleged profiling of Muslim students

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday ordered the recall of the memorandum directing authorities to submit an updated list of Muslim students.

NCRPO chief Police Major General Debold Sinas announced the decision a day after denying allegations on Muslim profiling.

"I have directed the District Director of Manila Police District... to recall the memorandum regarding the updated list of Muslim Students in High School, Colleges, and Universities in Manila City," Sinas said in a statement.

According to Sinas, the memorandum was not about profiling and only aimed to gather the statistics of Muslim students in Metro Manila.

The memo aimed to gather the total number of Muslim students, the number of females and males, their academic levels, and the names of the schools, amongst others.

"The NCRPO does not intend to cause harm and anxiety to our Muslim brothers and sisters," Sinas said.

He added he will direct the Manila Police District Salaam Police to conduct a meeting with Muslim student leaders in Manila.

"Please be assured that instead, I will direct the MPD Salaam Police to conduct a meeting with the Muslim student leaders in Manila City to accomplish the projects and activities for the Muslim community," Sinas said.

"Let me reiterate that we uphold the good rapport we have established with our Muslim brothers and sisters," he added. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
