1 a.m. to 2 a.m. considered deadliest hour for road accidents in NCR

Most fatal accidents in Metro Manila in 2019 happened between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.,  according to Bam Alegre's report on Unang Balita on Wednesday, citing data from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The data was culled from the hourly accident tally of Metro Manila Accident Reporting and Analysis System.

While the traffic is usually light during this period, MMDA said drivers are usually  tired, sleepy or intoxicated during this hour, which made them prone to accidents.

In 2019, MMDA recorded 8,593 road accidents that happened between 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. Of which, 111 had resulted to deaths.

MMDA noted that 33 of the fatalities experienced accident between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m.

Based on the data of the Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG), around 90% of road accidents were due to human error. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
