Cainta offers free face masks, alcohol refill amid COVID-19 threat

The local government of Cainta, Rizal gave out face masks and offered alcohol refill for residents amid the threat of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

This came after the Department of Health confirmed a couple, who lived in a private subdivision in Cainta, tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a report by Raffy Tima on "24 Oras" Monday, the couple's four children are already under quarantine since Saturday.

The local government also suspended classes to prevent the possible transmission of the virus and to allow local government personnel to disinfect all public places.

Barangay health units are also ready to accept patients with respiratory illness symptoms.

"The system is there. We don't really want the patients to come in but I mean we're prepared for it, assuming that there will be some more patients registering the same symptoms," Cainta Mayor Keith Nieto said.

The DOH on Saturday confirmed the sixth case of COVID-19 in the country -- a 59-year-old female who was admitted at the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine on March 5.

Her husband, who was earlier reported to have frequented a prayer hall in Greenhills, also tested positive for the virus.

At a press briefing earlier, Assistant Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the country has recorded 10 more cases of the virus, bringing the total number of cases to 20.

The number of deaths due to COVID-19 remained at one --  a 44-year-old Chinese male who was the first death recorded outside China.  —Ma. Angelica Garcia/LDF, GMA News
