2 UP faculty members declared as PUIs for possible COVID-19

The University of the Philippines (UP) has confirmed that two of its faculty members have been declared as persons under investigation (PUIs) for possible coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection.

In a report posted on its website, UP said the two faculty members had submitted themselves after attending an academic conference in Japan.

The UP Diliman Health Service (UPHS) declared them PUIs after showing fever and respiratory symptoms.

UPHS Director Jesusa Catabui assured the community that protocols were followed in isolating the patients and disinfecting the premises.

Earlier, UP Diliman Chancellor Fidel Nemenzo suspended work, banned official travel, canceled on-campus events, and moved toward holding online classes.

“We remind the community that the most effective way of containing the spread of COVID-19 is social distancing, proper hygiene and behavioral etiquette,” Nemenzo said. — Joviland Rita/MDM, GMA News
