Dialysis patients walk to hospitals amid enhanced community quarantine

Two patients initially barred at the border of San Mateo, Rizal and Quezon City on Tuesday were forced to walk to hospitals to have their dialysis treatment.

According to a report of Maki Pulido on GMA News' Unang Balita, only one of two dialysis patients was brought to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute by an ambulance stationed at the checkpoint.

The other one had to walk from the checkpoint to the hospital near Scout Gandia in Quezon City.

The dialysis patients said they were aware that there will be no available public transportation due to the enhanced community quarantine but they took the chance so they would not miss their treatment.

On Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that starting midnight of Tuesday, March 17, Luzon will be placed under enhanced community quarantine to address the threat of COVID-19. The quarantine will be in effect until April 12.

As part of this, the borders of quarantine areas will be strictly monitored. Mass and public transportation are suspended.

On Tuesday, hundreds of commuters found themselves stranded at checkpoints and terminals. —AOL/KG, GMA News
