AMID TIGHTER QUARANTINE

Pasig residents to get 400,000 food packs, 8,000 bottles of vitamins worth P160M

The Pasig City government announced Wednesday that it is preparing to distribute 400,000 food packs and 8,000 bottles of vitamins to residents amid the enhanced community quarantine of Luzon.

Mayor Vico Sotto said he is preparing a purchase request for food packs each worth as much as P397 that are expected to be delivered by the end of the week.

Each food pack will contain the following:

  • 3 kilograms of well-milled rice
  • 2 cans of sardines
  • 2 cans of corned tuna
  • 2 cans of corned beef
  • 2 cans of meat loaf

The local government is also set to distribute on Thursday the first batch of vitamins supplied by Philusa Corp, which had offered a 10-percent discount to Pasig City.

“Hindi magiging madali ang logistics nito. Wala na po tayong panahon para mag-organisa… Hihingi ang lungsod ng tulong sa mga pamahalaan pambarangay para sa distribusyon,” he said on Facebook.

The emergency procurement of the food packs will cost the local government a maximum of P158 million.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier assured the public that the country has enough food supply for the duration of the quarantine.

The President also mandated barangay officials to ensure that their constituents will get enough food as thousands of workers’ incomes are temporarily affected by the implementation of a strict home quarantine for all households.
