Big city QC has 29 COVID-19 patients, 25% of cases in NCR


Mayor Joy Belmonte on Tuesday announced that there are now 29 confirmed coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Quezon City.

In a press conference, Belmonte said that the cases were 15 percent of the nationwide tally of confirmed cases. It also composed of 25 percent of the cases in Metro Manila.

"Hindi nakakagulat ang porsyentong ito sapagkat ang laki ng Lungsod Quezon ay 25 porsyento din ng laki ng Kalakhang Maynila," Belmonte said.

According to the mayor, Project 6, San Antonio, and Barangays Del Monte, Maharlika, San Isidro Labrador, Bagong Silangan, Soccoro, E. Rodriguez, Ugong Norte, White Plains, Marilag, South Triangel, Paligsahan, Valencia, Dona Imelda, Pasong Putik, Mabagbag, and Pasong Tamo have one COVID-19 case each.

Meanwhile, Barangay Matandang Balara has two confirmed cases.

Barangays Crame and Kalusugan, and Tandang Sora have three COVID-19 cases each.

Of the confirmed cases, three have been discharged from hospitals. The patient from Barangay Paligsahan and the two cases from -- aged 13 and 26 -- Barangay Crame.

Quezon City, however, has one fatality due to the virus, a shop owner at the Greenhills Shopping Center who lived in Barangay Matandang Balara.

According to Belmonte, there are 16 persons under investigation and 54 persons under monitoring for the COVID-19 in Quezon City.

"Ginagawa ng pamahalaan ang lahat upang dumami pa ang gumaling," Belmonte said.

Due to the number of cases in Barangay Kalusugan and Tandang Sora, the Quezon City Government has placed the barangays under a heightened community quarantine.

Meanwhile, the nationwide tally of confirmed cases rose to 202 on Wednesday. -NB, GMA News
