QC gov't to distribute 400k food packs weekly during quarantine period

The Quezon City government will distribute 400,000 food packs, which are good for two million people, per week for the month-long duration of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon due to COVID-19, Mayor Joy Belmonte said Friday.

Belmonte said that each food pack will serve a family which has roughly five members in all of Quezon City's 142 barangays.

“Thank you to all the staff who will need to work 24/7 for the next three weeks in order for the city government to be able to repack and distribute 400,000 food packs each week for our 142 barangays until the end of the quarantine period,” Belmonte said.

“This same staff will also do simultaneous house to house distributions to all the affected households on Sunday and Monday in keeping with social distance requirements.”

Belmonte then explained that the distribution took a little while since the suppliers were overwhelmed with the volume of the Quezon City government’s orders and could not comply immediately, even if the city government placed its order the day after President Rodrigo Duterte placed the entire Luzon under enhanced quarantine.

In addition, Belmonte said that the gap in the arrival of food packs are filled in by the fact that the barangays were already able to use their Quick Response Fund as the city is already under state of calamity. --Llanesca T. Panti/KBK, GMA News
