QC installs disinfection chamber in city hall


The Quezon City government has installed a disinfection chamber in the city hall, its center of response operations, amid rising cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to Saleema Refran's Friday report on 24 Oras, the chamber was created by the Department of Science and Technology, Usher Technologies, and Mapua University.

Prior to entering the chamber, individuals must step on a foot bath with a decontamination solution. After this, they will enter the main chamber where they will be sprayed with a disinfectant solution.

Similar chambers will be installed in hospitals in the city, according to the report.

"Kasi gumawa ng kumbaga low cost at local version natin dahil kailangan natin ngayon to help combat itong problem natin sa COVID-19," Francis Aldrine Uy, the dean of Mapua University Civil Engineering, said.

Confirmed cases in Quezon City has climbed to 40 with two fatalities.

The local government has also inspected the Baesa Crematorium.

Tents were placed outside the establishment for the decontamination of workers who will handle the cremation and dead bodies.

"'Wag naman po sanang mangyari, which I'm also praying na sana malagpasan na natin itong problema na ito, ang ating krisis sa bansa," City Civil Registrar Salvador Carino Jr. said.

"[B]ut the Quezon City Government is preparing for the worst," he said.

Though there are no confirmed cases in Barangay Laging Handa, local authorities have closed some of its roads.

Drivers may only use Scout Tobias Street from Timog Avenue or Roces Avenue.

"Gumawa na kami ng mga hakbang para lalo naming malimit 'yung access ng mga tao sa aming barangay," Barangay Laging Handa chairman Jose Maria Rodriguez saids.

Barangay Sacred Heart has also closed some roads.

Drivers passing through Scout Ybardolaza must undergo disinfection.

Meanwhile., the local government is preparing to give relief packs to 400,000 families of daily wage earners.

On Thursday night, some barangay and local government officials roamed Barangay Kalusugan to give disinfectants and food packs to residents. —Joahna Lei Casilao/LDF, GMA News
