Pasig City launches mobile palengke to reduce shoppers in wet markets

Pasig City has launched a mobile palengke to reduce the number of shoppers in the Pasig Mega Market and other wet markets in the city.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Vico Sotto shared photos of an open truck with goods where Pasig residents can buy foodstuffs.

The supplies, such as rice, meat, and vegetables, come from the Mega Market.

"Presyong palengke, mas malapit sa mamimili, at tulong na rin sa mga maninindang Pasigueño," Sotto said.

The mayor said they have five mobile palengke which will go around the city following a schedule.

Under the enhanced community quarantine, Luzon residents are only allowed to go out of their homes to buy food and medicines.

With the mobile palengke, social distancing can be enforced in markets as the number of shoppers become more manageable.

Sotto also said the Pasig City government will distribute grocery packs to barangays to ensure food security for his constituents.

"Paalala muli kung gaano kalaki ang operations na ito -- imposibleng maperpekto sa napaka iksing panahon," he said, adding that it could take up to seven days to reach the poorest areas in the city.
