MPD to probe cop threatening, cursing residents in Quiapo

The Manila Police District (MPD) on Thursday said it would conduct an investigation on the video circulating online which showed a cop threatening and cursing some residents in a control point in Quiapo, Manila.

"Paiimbestigahan ko ito. Kanina ko lang nalaman," MPD chief Brigadier General Rolando Miranda said in a text message to GMA News Online.

It was shown in the video that the cop was cursing at the residents who were showing their quarantine passes as they wanted to go out of the area.

The cop even threatened to shoot those who wanted to go out. He allegedly hit them also.

"Lahat nang lalabas nang walang oras, babarilin na, t*ngina niyo," the policeman said.

"Ikaw bakit ka lumabas? Oras ba ngayon? 'Yan ba dapat gamitin ngayon? P*tangina niyo matigas ulo, umuwi ka!" the cop added.

According to Philippine National Police deputy chief for operations Police Lieutenant General Guillermo Eleazar, the PNP leadership will not tolerate any abuses committed by cops.

"'Yun ay ating iimbestigahan. Hindi hahayaan ng pamunuan ng PNP na mag-aabuso ang pulis o sinomang namumuno o kawani ng gobyerno sa mga pagkakataong ito na kailangan natin ng pagtutulungan at sakripisyo," Eleazar told reporters.

He also said it is wrong for the cop to say that residents who will not follow orders will be shot.

"Hindi naman. That is why at all levels of the command, nandiyan ang ating supervision," Eleazar said.

The National Capital Region Police Office also said it would also look into the incident.—AOL/RSJ, GMA News
