Marikina City sets up disinfection tents for market-goers

Marikina City has set up disinfection tents at the entrance of one of its markets to combat the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a viral post on Facebook, Thursday, Marikina resident Harley Serball Timbol showed off the tents in Marikina Market in Sta. Elena, which aim to help locals decontaminate and disinfect their whole bodies before and after entering the market.

With the help of the tents, citizens are more reassured that they would not be carriers of the disease, said Timbol.

Aside from the disinfection tents, social distancing was also implemented in the market.

According to the Department of Health's (DOH) online tracker, seven patients who have been confirmed with COVID-19 come from Marikina.

Just a few days ago, Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro urged the DOH to approve of the city's COVID-19 testing center to fasten detection. However, the initiative was rejected after he received the agency's assessment of the lab.

As of Thursday, the Philippines has confirmed 707 cases while 45 people have died due to COVID-19.
