Manila's families to receive P1,000 via crisis fund –Isko Moreno

To mitigate the hardships from the enhanced community quarantine as soon as possible, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso announced on Sunday night that the city government created a City Amelioration Crisis Assistance Fund through which 568,000 families in the city would each be given a P1,000 grant.

In a Facebook live video, Moreno explained that, despite the city's best efforts, they were unable to provide all of the city's 568,000 families with food assistance packages that would help these families through the community quarantine stemming from the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In the 13 days since the quarantine came into effect, only 235,072 families had received food packages.

Thus, in an effort to speed up the distribution of assistance, the Manila government passed an ordinance and created a P591,500,000 City Amelioration Crisis Assistance Fund, which was financed through a budget realignment.

According to Moreno, all 568,000 families in the city would receive P1000 from the fund, with priority initially given to those families that had not yet received a food package.

Afterward, the process would be reversed and it would be the turn of the families that were given food packs to receive their P1000, while the families who received the cash grants would then be given their food assistance packages.

According to Moreno, the cash grants would be coursed through the barangays, and the initial distribution would begin on April 7-Tuesday and would likely be completed by April 9-Thursday.

The distribution of aid would be done house to house in order to maintain social distancing requirements. — DVM, GMA News
