Taguig doubles monthly pay of barangay health workers

The local government of Taguig City has doubled the monthly pay for barangay health workers who continue to serve residents amid the enhanced community quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Instead of an allowance and additional benefits, the barangay health workers will now receive a regular salary after the local government promoted them from volunteers to job order personnel beginning April 1.

The city's Human Resource Management Office head, Jeanette Clemente, explained that barangay health workers who had previously received P3,000 will now receive P7,900.

She added that those who had taken home P4,000 will now get P8,500 while the ones who had gotten P5,000 will receive P9,700.

“Taguig’s leaders noted how our BHWs worked as front liners in the COVID-19 response and how they’ve dedicated their lives as implementers of our healthcare programs even before this,” Clemente said.

“This is how they went on to increase the monthly pay. The increase will remain in effect even beyond the enhanced community quarantine," she added.

Clemente added that barangay health workers would also be entitled to a yearly P15,000 performance incentive.

At present, Taguig City has the most number of barangay health workers in Metro Manila. From 600 in 2010, the city now has 854 health workers deployed in different barangays in the city. --Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
