Makati starts construction of four emergency quarantine facilities

The local government of Makati City has started constructing four additional emergency quarantine facilities to boost the capacity of existing hospitals catering to patients with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a statement on Monday, Makati City Mayor Abigail "Abby" Binay said the additional facilities -- designed by cWTA Architecture and Design Studio -- will be built in partnership with several private sector donors.

Each facility will be made of wooden frames and Polyethene sheets, and will house 15 beds, sanitation and disinfection areas, a testing box, and a lounge for nurses.

Three of the temporary structures will be built at the Pembo Elementary School, and one at the parking area of the Ospital ng Makati.

"We have built additional quarantine facilities to further augment the capacity of our public hospital. This is to ensure that we have enough facilities for our PUIs and to make sure that no people who are under quarantine will be forced to go home," said Binay.

"We have taken strategic measures to battle this pandemic and flatten the curve of the virus. The city will continue to think of ways to make sure that every Makatizen is safe and healthy," she added.

As of April 12, 2020, Makati City has 57 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease. -NB, GMA News
