Delayed relief makes some Malabon residents upset with barangay officials, neighbors

The delay in the distribution of relief goods has residents of Barangay Tañong, Malabon City venting their frustrations not only on local authorities but on each other.

According to Mark Salazar's report on "24 Oras", many of the residents in the barangay have yet to receive relief items and have become upset especially after seeing some of their neighbors receiving their share of aid.

A resident said those who were close to barangay officials have been getting preferential treatment in the relief distribution.

"Sa totoo lang 'yong iba nakikita namin dala-dala, hakot-hakot pero kami wala. Dalawa na lang kami, kawawa naman kami tapos 'yong iba sagana," she said. "Totoong palakasan talaga."

A neighbor who felt alluded to said she only received enough for her family.

"Kung ano nararanasan nila, nararanasan din namin, Basta ako masaya na ako kung ano natatanggap ng pamilya ko," she said.

"Kaya nanggagalaiti rin ako kasi sinasabi nila na kaming pamilya buo mayroon. Halungkatin niyo 'yong loob ng bahay namin, walang laman," she added.

Barangay chairwoman Alma Buenaventura said the reason why others have yet to receive goods was due to a shortage in relief supplies.

With the situation, some residents appealed regarding the financial assistance under the social amelioration program of the national government.

Buenaventura has been on the receiving end of frustration from residents who have become desperate for financial aid amid the COVID-19 crisis.

However, Buenabentura said she was only given 200 social amelioration forms but their population is over 3,500. -Ma. Angelica Garcia/NB, GMA News
