RAGOS SHOOTING

QC cop undergoes inquest over homicide complaint

Police Master Sergeant Daniel Florendo is now undergoing inquest proceedings for a homicide complaint, according to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo on Friday.

"As of now, naano na natin si Police Master Sergeant Florendo for inquest proceedings, online inquest po siya ngayon," Montejo said at a virtual press briefing.

"We based our findings on the evidence at hand... so 'yun lang po ang ano kung ano 'yung evidence na nasa atin, 'yun lang po ang pinagpasyahan natin para sa inquest proceedings," Montejo added.

The QCPD chief said that as of now, only Florendo would be charged for homicide.

"As of now wala naman na-establish na conspiracy so ang principal lang ang tinututukan natin..." Montejo said.

Florendo and some police trainees from the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group were manning a control point at Maligaya Drive in Fairview when former soldier, Private First Class Winston Ragos, arrived and reportedly shouted at them.

Cops advised Ragos to go home but the latter refused, prompting Florendo to fatally shoot him. Authorities claim Ragos carried a gun, but the victim's relatives claim otherwise.

A motu propio investigation by the National Police Commission is ongoing regarding the incident. The Philippine Army is also conducting its own investigation. — RSJ, GMA News
