'Nutritionally-challenged' nursing mothers in QC to receive P2,000 aid amid ECQ

The Quezon City government will give P2,000 aid to around 6,000 nutritionally-challenged lactating mothers amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

In a statement on Sunday, Mayor Joy Belmonte announced that the nursing mothers are now included in local government’s expanded financial assistance program dedicated to those badly affected by the ECQ.

“Around 6,000 nursing mothers all over the city will start receiving P2,000 from the program, which we recently widened to cover more residents who need immediate help,” she said.

From its P2.8-billion supplemental budget for 2020, the QC government explained that it allotted P600 million for the expansion of the “Kalingang QC” project.

The financial assistance program was stretched to cover more vendors, solo parents, persons with disability (PWDs), and senior citizens, who are not included in the initial rollout of the project.

For this program, the city government initially allocated P200 million for 100,000 residents, covering drivers, market vendors,  and other daily wage earners affected by the ECQ.

As of April 25, the city government has distributed the P2,000 aid to around 42,898 residents. --Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
