BI looking into confrontation between cop, foreigner in Makati village

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is looking into an incident involving a foreigner and a policeman in a private subdivision in Makati City over quarantine enforcement that reportedly escalated to an attempted arrest and injuries.

BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the bureau's intelligence division is conducting an assessment and case buildup on the matter.

She said the BI is investigating to determine "if there is an immigration violation following said incident."

Javier Parra, who lives in Dasmariñas Village in Makati City, claimed that police were imposing a fine of P1,000 on his maid because she was caught not wearing a face mask while watering plants on his property.

Parra said he went outside to tell the police a fine was not necessary as the incident occurred on a private property. He claimed an officer then trespassed and threatened to arrest him, throwing him to the ground to handcuff him.

The police claimed on the other hand that they were patrolling the subdivision upon the request of the barangay captain when they noticed Parra's helper watering the plants outside the property's perimeter with no face mask.

The helper allegedly went inside to get a mask after being advised by police to wear one. Parra and his wife allegedly went outside minutes later to confront the officers. The man allegedly threw foul words at Police Senior Master Sergeant Roland Von Madrona, who then supposedly tried to arrest him.

Parra allegedly evaded and returned to his house.

The Philippine National Police is also investigating the incident. — Nicole-Anne C. Lagrimas/RSJ, GMA News
