6 killed in Tondo fire

Six people, including two minors, were killed in a fire that engulfed several houses in Tondo, Manila on Thursday morning, according to Isa Avendano-Umali's report on Dobol B sa News TV, citing a disaster official.

Five people were initially reported killed, but Director Arnel Angeles of the Manila Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (MDRRMO) said the latest count was six.

The fire took place at the corner of Tioco and Herbosa streets behind Pritil Market, an area residents referred to as "Tondominium," according to the report.

Among the fatalities were a 40-year-old resident and a senior citizen.

The minors were siblings who were reportedly left in the house by their mother to go to the supermarket.

Aside from the fatalities, four were hurt, including a fireman, in the blaze that started at 6:37 a.m. and was declared fire-out at 7:52 a.m. It reached first alarm.

The affected residents will temporarily stay at a covered court in the area.

The fire took place amid the enhanced community quarantine being implemented in Luzon due to the COVID-19 threat. --KBK, GMA News
