Fish vendor beaten up by QC lockdown enforcers released

The fish vendor, who was beaten up by lockdown enforcers in Quezon City, has been released from detention, authorities said on Thursday.

A report from Quezon City Police District - Kamuning Station 10 said that Michael Rubia was released in good condition at 11:30 a.m. and was received by his relatives.

"Said PUPC (person under police custody) was released in good physical condition based on a resolution from the Office of City Prosecutor signed by Senior ACP Raniel Cruz,” the police report stated.

During his release, he was assisted by the local government officials of Quezon City. A representative from the Commission on Human Rights was also present.

A video circulated online showing a barangay official repeatedly hitting Rubia with a rattan stick along Panay Avenue after the latter supposedly violated quarantine protocols.

The enforcer who had hit Rubia was already suspended due to the incident. -NB, GMA News
