Pasong Tamo residents in QC up early to claim cash aid

Residents of Pasong Tamo in Quezon City qualified to receive government aid under the Social Amelioration Program were up early Friday, the first day of the extension period for the distribution.

A tweet by GMA News' James Agustin shows the residents already forming a long line before 7 a.m.

Police were deployed in the area to ensure that the residents observe social distancing.

One of the beneficiaries was Robert Sierra, a 41-year-old PWD.

"Mahirap po talaga ang buhay. Kahit sa normal na tao nararamdaman 'yon ngayon, ako pa kayang may kapansanan," he said.

The government has extended for seven days the period for the distribution of the first tranche of the emergency subsidy program in Metro Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Cebu City and Davao City.

Under the guidelines of the social amelioration program, local governments are required to submit to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) a liquidation report within 15 working days from the completion of the distribution.

Under the program, around 18 million low-income households and those in the informal sector affected by the restrictions implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic will receive monthly cash subsidies amounting to P5,000 to P8,000 for two months as mandated by the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act (Republic Act 11469). --KBK, GMA News
