Woman evicted from rented home, claims barangay officials threaten to take her baby

A woman in Caloocan City was evicted from her home and barangay authorities also threatened to take her baby away from her after she failed to pay her rent for the month of April.

According to a 24 Oras report by Tina Panganiban Perez on Monday, a viral video taken last May 1 showed Jodelyn Parco clutching on to her infant child as she argued with barangay authorities over rent.

“‘Di pa po kasi ako bayad sa upa. Ngayon lang po ako di bayad, ngayong araw lang. Isang buwan lang kuya,” she said through tears in the video.

Someone was trying to take her baby on the orders of a barangay executive officer due to unpaid rent.

Parco said she was told by authorities that they will take her baby because she was unfit to care for her child financially.

The unit being rented by Parco is owned by the mother of the barangay executive officer.

“Maayos ‘yung pakikiusap ko sa kanila… Ni wala nga kong pera kasi wala ngang trabaho, anong gagawin ko?” she said. “Uma-umaga… araw-araw naninigil. Sabi ko, pakiusap lang. Wala pa akong pera. ‘Yung makukuha ko sa DSWD sa kaniya na.”

Parco told GMA News that she went to the barangay hall to file a complaint over the incident.

When she returned to her home, however, she had been locked out.

“Maayos naman ang pakiusap ko sa kaniya. Ba’t kailangan niyang ikandado, patayan kami ng ilaw [at] tubig e may bata, child abuse na ‘yun?” she said in the video.

Parco will press charges against her landlady over the eviction.

“Talagang may karapatan kang magdemanda. Idedemanda natin ng grave coercion,” Caloocan chief of police Police Colonel Dario Menor told Parco.

Menor added that the rental property is subject for closure if they find the landlady has no business permit. —Julia Mari Ornedo/LDF, GMA News
