MRT passengers told to allot 2 to 3 hours for boarding once operations resume

Passengers using the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) to go to their destination should allot more time once the enhanced community quarantine implemented due to the COVID-19 crisis is lifted in Metro Manila.

According to Jonathan Andal's report on Unang Balita on Wednesday, only 13% of the total capacity of MRT3 -- or 51 passengers per coach or 153 per train -- will be allowed to board on any given trip.

MRT3 Director Michael Capati, the report said this could mean waiting time could last from two to three hours under the new system, compared to 30 minutes under the old one.

The passengers will be required to undergo strict security measures before being allowed entrance to stations. Only three passengers are allowed to form a line per teller, while six will be allowed per turnstile.

This early, markings have been placed on the MRT North Avenue Station's platform to ensure social distancing is observed by passengers while in line.

Marshals will also be stationed inside the trains to control passenger traffic and avoid crowding. --KBK, GMA News
