COVID-19 hotspot in Mandaluyong to undergo week-long lockdown

Barangay Addition Hills in Mandaluyong City will be locked down for a week due to the high number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases recorded in the area.

According to a 24 Oras report by Emil Sumangil on Wednesday, several residents went out of their homes either to stock up on food or supplies or to claim their cash subsidy before the barangay is locked down on Thursday, May 7, until next Wednesday, May 13.

“Hanggang gabi kami. Tatapusin namin ‘yung relief operations sa bawat block. Ongoing po ngayon ‘yung distribution ng relief goods,” barangay chairman Carlito Cernal said.

The barangay has so far recorded 59 cases with at least six deaths.

At least 10 residents were arrested last month at a cock derby at Barangay Addition Hills.

According to the Department of Health, Addition Hills has the highest number of COVID-19 cases among barangays across the country, followed by Tandang Sora in Quezon City with 56 cases, and San Antonio in Parañaque with 53.

“Sa isang bloke po kasi napakaraming tao kaya gano’n po siya kahirap and maybe do’n nangyayari ‘yung hawaan,” Cernal said.

Under the lockdown, no one will be allowed outside except for health workers, uniformed personnel, and essential workers.
