Beneficiaries in Metro Manila wait until wee hours to receive social amelioration aid

Some beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program in Metro Manila waited in line all morning on Monday until the wee hours of Tuesday to claim the P8,000 cash subsidy from the government.

As the deadline of the cash aid distribution was extended for the third time to May 13, local governments resumed the payout to beneficiaries.

Barangay Payatas, QC

According to a report of James Agustin on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday, the aid distribution to a batch of 3,700 beneficiaries in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City ended at 2 a.m.

Another batch of beneficiaries was already waiting early morning on Tuesday since around 5,000 residents have yet to receive the subsidy.

Rodriguez, Rizal

In Rodriguez, Rizal, some beneficiaries in Barangay San Jose also fell in line early morning on Tuesday even before the start of the distribution at 9 a.m.

According to a report of Bam Alegre on Unang Balita, the beneficiaries were forced to go home by police when the distribution process was cut on Monday night. They were instead told to go back on Tuesday.

Pateros

Meanwhile in Pateros, some beneficiaries were asked to return back and forth to the distribution venue.

According to them, they were instructed to get themselves listed first because they were not initially included in the list of beneficiaries.

According to a report of Mai Bermudez on Unang Balita, one of the beneficiaries cried when she learned that she was not included in the list after hours of waiting.

Under the Social Amelioration Program, 18 million low-income families will receive P5,000 to P8,000 cash subsidy for two months to help them cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
