Four days after distribution deadline, thousands still line up for cash aid in QC, Rizal

Four days after the deadline for the distribution lapsed, thousands of qualified beneficiaries under the government's Social Amelioration Program (SAP) are still lining up for their cash aid.

In Barangay Payatas in Quezon City, beneficiaries spent the muggy night queueing outside a covered court for the early morning distribution of the cash aid the following day, according to James Agustin's report on Unang Balita.

Barangay officials said 3,400 of the 17,000 qualified beneficiaries in the area have yet to receive their cash subsidy amounting from P6,000 to P8,000.

Among those seeking to receive the subsidy were those who lost their jobs due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) implemented in Luzon amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Barangay San Juan in Taytay, Rizal, a long line of beneficiaries was also seen. According to a tweet by Super Radyo dzBB's Mark Makalalad, a PWD was asked to leave the line because he didn't have the required stub.

Beneficiaries in Rodriguez, Rizal, meanwhile, were wondering if they could still receive their cash subsidy following the downgrading of the ECQ in Rizal to general community quarantine, according to Mai Bermudez's report on Unang Balita.

Rizal will be under GCQ starting May 16, Saturday.

The deadline for the distribution of cash assistance ended on May 10 after two extensions, but the Department of the Interior and Local Government said the distribution could continue afterward. --KBK, GMA News
