Security guard dies of possible stroke while biking home from QC to Antipolo

A security guard serving as a frontliner in a condo has died of possible stroke while he was biking on his way home.

Allan Artuz was found lifeless on the road by authorities on Wednesday after finishing his shift in a condo in Quezon City. He had been biking home to Antipolo, Rizal, but collapsed on the way and was brought to Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina.

His widow, Irene, said they last spoke that same morning, when he called to tell her that he'll go straight home after work.

Unfortunately, he never made it.

After waiting for him all morning, Irene had received a call from the barangay and police at noon informing her that her husband has died.

"Paano ko ba sasabihin sayo na paalam? Daya mo naman Pa, bakit mo naman kami iniwan ng maaga?" a grieving Irene said in a Facebook post.

"Kaya pala lahat ng tao sa bahay tinanong ko kung dumating ka na, wala pa daw. Yun pala hindi ka na talaga darating. Mahal na mahal kita Pa, sobrang bigyan mo ko ng lakas ng loob para kayanin ko tong lahat," she added.

Doctors said that Allan's death seemed to have been caused by stroke, since there were no abrasions or bruises, and he was not hit by anything. Thus, Irene had decided not to proceed with an autopsy.

According to the widow, Allan had pre-existing diabetes and high blood pressure as of last year and discontinued intake of medicine since it makes his stomach ache.

On top of that, the security guard has been biking to and from work since the beginning of quarantine, which had increased his stress on top of extended work hours.

Allan and Irene have been married for seven years. They have two children together.

Irene commended those who are working as frontliners like his late husband.

"Saludo ako sa inyo. Ayun po talaga 'yung ang trabaho. Kailangan talaga pumasok, kahit ano mangyari," she said.

Many workers have been struggling to get to their workplaces since mass transportation was suspended after Luzon was placed under enhanced community quarantine.

Frontliners and essential workers have resorted to walking, biking, or riding motorcycles to get to work.
