Malacañang on Monday said the government would be guided by scientific data in deciding whether to further ease restrictions in Metro Manila by June 1.

Among the factors that will be considered by the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 response include the doubling time of cases, critical care capacity and the economy.

“Siyensiya po ang magiging basehan natin,” presidential spokesman Secretary Harry Roque said in a televised briefing. “Antayin na lang po natin ang magiging desisyon ng IATF, ilang tulog na lang naman po iyan.”

Majority of the country’s more than 14,000 COVID-19 cases were recorded in Metro Manila, which has been under modified enhanced community quarantine since May 16 that paved the way for the reopening of more businesses.

It was reported that the majority of Metro Manila mayors favor a shift to a less strict general community quarantine after May 31 although the matter will still be resolved at the Metro Manila Council’s meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

The MMC’s recommendation will then be presented to the IATF. -NB, GMA News
