NCRPO, LRT hold simulation for resumption of LRT2 ops

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) on Tuesday ran a simulation for the resumption of LRT2 operations once quarantine restrictions over public transit are loosened.

According to a 24 Oras report by Chino Gaston, 500 police trainees acted as commuters in the simulation.

Once LRT2 operations resume, a “no mask, no entry” policy will be implemented and foot baths will be placed at the entrance.

Commuters with a temperature of 37.8 degrees celsius and COVID-19 symptoms will also not be allowed inside.

Inside the train, markers have been placed on the floor and seats to indicate where commuters will be allowed to sit or stand.

A maximum of 160 passengers will be allowed per train.

The train will also be disinfected after every trip.

The LRTA said they expect ridership to drop dramatically from 5.5 million to 450,000.

“Pagka tuloy tuloy ‘yung ganitong situation natin, heavily subsidized ‘yung pamasahe ng ating mga pasahero kasi tuwing sasakay ang pasahero ngayon, technically ‘yung pamasahe mo is good for anim na people. Mag-isa ka lang, pero papasanin ng gobyerno ‘yung limang tao,” LRT2 safety officer Atty. Hernando Cabrera said.

Meanwhile, NCRPO chief Major General Debold Sinas said they will arrest commuters who do not observe social distancing measures.

It remains unclear when mass transportation services will resume operations due to the pandemic. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
