Kites on power lines give Tondo street a 'fiesta' feel but Meralco unhappy

Due to the number of kites that got entangled on power lines, it looks like a street in Tondo 1 in Manila is celebrating its fiesta.

A seen on photos posted by Super Radyo dzBB's Jhomer Apresto on Twitter, over a dozen kites got entangled on power lines in the area, a situation that can result in power outages.

Because of this, Meralco has appealed to the public to avoid flying kites near power lines.

"Let's refrain from doing that. Nakikiusap po ako sa ating mga kababayan, 'wag na ho muna tayong magpalipad ng saranggola," said Meralco spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga on April 24, adding the resultant power outages could affect hospitals.

As of April 24, Meralco has recorded 47 power outages due to kites getting entangled on power lines since the start of the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.

Apart from possible power outages, kites getting snagged on power lines could also result in electrocution of the person flying the kite. —KBK, GMA News
