DOTr-LTFRB to open more bus routes in NCR on June 5, 7

The government will be opening more bus routes in Metro Manila as part of the gradual resumption of public transportation following the capital region’s shift to general community quarantine.

In an advisory, the Department of Transportation-Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (DOTr-LTFRB) said three city bus routes will be opened on June 5, Friday.

The three new routes are the following:

  • Route 1: Monumento - Balagtas, Bulacan
  • Route 17: EDSA - Montalban, Rizal
  • Route 18: NAIA Loop

Meanwhile, the following city bus routes will be launched on June 8, Monday:

  • Route 3: Monumento - VGC
  • Route 11: Gilmore - Taytay
  • Route 21: Monumento - San Jose Del Monte

The LTFRB will be meeting with the concerned bus operators within the day to determine the number of units that are to be deployed immediately.

The upcoming routes are part of the 31 rationalized routes for Metro Manila, which are set to open gradually under the GCQ, the DOTr-LTFRB said.

Some commuters struggled to go to work on Monday due to the limited capacity of public transport in Metro Manila, which transitioned from modified enhanced community quarantine to GCQ, allowing more businesses to open and employees to get back to work.

To recall, the Transportation department said public transportation would resume under GCQ in two phases.

Under Phase 1, which will run from June 1 to 21, only trains, augmentation buses, taxis, transport network vehicle services, shuttle services, point-to-point buses, and bicycles will be allowed to operate on a limited capacity. The operation of tricycles under this phase is subject to the approval of local government units.

Under Phase 2 from June 22 to 30, public utility buses, modern public utility vehicles or jeepneys, and UV Express will be allowed to operate on a limited capacity.

“This is part of our gradual and calibrated approach in the resumption of public transport operations in Metro Manila,” the DOTr said. — RSJ, GMA News
