Commuting still a struggle for NCR workers despite increased number of buses

Despite an increased number of buses plying the road, commuting remains a struggle for many workers especially during rush hours, according to Unang Balita reports on Tuesday.

In her report, Darlene Cay said commuters still crowded the Litex portion of Commonwealth Avenue in the morning although their number was significantly lower compared to in the past weeks.

"Mahirap po, wala pang ganong sasakyan," said Joelito Abelong, a construction worker who had to leave home before daylight so that he will not be late for work.

Some of those on Commonwealth Avenue were waiting for the shuttle services provided by their employers.

"Kulang pa rin po [ang transportasyon]," said Marife Pacis, a clerk in a shopping mall, in a separate report by Mai Bermudez.

"Ang apela ko lang, sana madagdagan pa yung mga transpo natin," said Samuel Samson, a chef, in the same report.

Meanwhile, a long line of passengers was reported at the MRT3 Station in Kamuning even before daybreak, according to James Agustin's report.

Merlyn Barrento said she was in line as early as 4 a.m. for her 6 a.m. job.

Another passenger, Salvador Bolando, who works in Makati City, said he was in line as early as 3 a.m.

Metro Manila is under general community quarantine, where transportation is limited, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At present, only buses, modernized jeepneys, taxis and TNVS are allowed to operate. --KBK, GMA News
