LSIs waiting for flights camp out on Andrews Ave. near NAIA, run out of funds

Locally stranded individuals (LSIs) whose flights were canceled sought shelter at a waiting shed on Andrews Avenue, Pasay City near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The LSIs were also becoming desperate as they were running out of funds, according to a report by Mai Bermudez on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.

They said they did not go back to the houses they were staying in because they had no more money to pay the rent.

Saidin Ulama, one of the LSIs, said he is just trying to stretch the funds sent by his relatives to cover expenses for food and use of restroom.

A female LSI said she was supposed to leave for Qatar last March for a job. However, the lockdown was imposed and no flights to and from the Philippines were allowed.

According to her, the employment agency was asking for payment for the expenses they incurred for her welfare during the lockdown.

She also said the agency informed her that a flight to Qatar was already available, but this turned out to be untrue.

"Pinapaasa kami," she said.

Aside from food and restroom use, LSIs also have been trying to set aside money for charging their mobile phones. —KG, GMA News
