Quezon City reports 60% COVID-19 recovery rate, so far

The Quezon City government on Wednesday recorded a COVID-19 recovery rate of  60% after intensifying its "trace-isolate-treat" strategy amid the pandemic.

In a statement, Dr. Rolly Cruz, head of the QC Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (ESU) of the city’s health department, said the number of recoveries is now at 1,985 among the 3,302 cases.

From June 6, Cruz said, the number of recoveries in the city ohas overtaken the number of active cases.

“Dahil mabilis nating naisasagawa ang trace-isolate-treat strategy natin, agad nating naaagapan ang mga kaso ng COVID-19 at nabibigyan ng karampatang atensiyon at pag-aalaga,” Cruz said.

Mayor Joy Belmonte, meanwhile, said the city’s various HOPE community caring facilities, which serve as quarantine areas for possible COVID-19 patients and treatment centers for mild and asymptomatic cases, are now nearing capacity due to the trace-isolate-treat approach.

“We welcome this situation as this only shows that our trace-isolate-treat method in dealing with the pandemic is effective,” Belmonte said.

“Dahil epektibo ang ating community-based testing, mas madali nating naihihiwalay ang mga positibo sa COVID-19 para hindi na makahawa pa sa mga komunidad,” she added.

Based on the latest data, HOPE 2 currently has a total of 1,220 confirmed and suspected patients, while HOPE 3, which has 84 beds, now houses 62 patients.

“The influx of patients is due to the fact that we have identified positive patients from lockdown areas and through contract tracing of ESU,” Cruz said.

He added that HOPE 2 at the Quezon City University will be closed in mid-August to pave way for possible face-to-face classes in September.

“In place of that, we will be opening two new quarantine facilities at the Quezon City General Hospital (QCGH) and in Talipapa,” Cruz said.

The QCGH facility, which is set to open in August, will have 350 beds, while the center that will be established at the Talipapa Senior High School will have 76 beds.

The facility in Talipapa will open next month and will also serve as a community testing center, Cruz said.

As of July 1, Quezon City has recorded a total of 3,410 Department of Health-confirmed COVID-19 cases with 1,985 recoveries and 235 deaths.
