Hunger, difficult commute make 64-year-old commuter cry on EDSA

A heavy load, the difficult commute and his empty stomach were just too much for 64-year-old Rodrigo Baluyot on Tuesday morning.

According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras", a member of the PNP-Highway Patrol Group even carried Lolo Rodrigo's sack when they crossed a footbridge on EDSA.

When they got to the other side, Lolo Rodrigo sat down and cried.

"Gutom na. Wala po akong pera," Lolo Rodrigo said.

He was commuting from Bulacan to Manila, where he would stay with a sibling.

A commuter who heard him gave him food.

Policeman Roderick Pattalitan of the PNP-HPG stuck with him and carried his sack until Lolo Rodrigo was able to get a ride.

Thousands of passengers have been spending hours on the road as their commutes have been made more difficult by reduced capacities in public utility vehicles.

PUVs such as buses may only take passengers that are a fraction of their capacities to ensure social distancing inside the vehicles to control the spread of COVID-19. -NB, GMA News
