NCR mayors to tighten penalties for health protocol violations —MMDA

Metro Manila Mayors MMDA COVID-19 health protocol violations

National Capital Region mayors will intensify enforcement of COVID-19 health protocols  with stiffer penalties, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority general manager Undersecretary Jojo Garcia said Sunday.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Garcia said the MMDA had a meeting with the Metro Manila mayors or the Metro Manila Council (MMC).

“Nagkaroon po kami ng  mga pagpupulong ng ating mga mayors na lalakasan pa 'yung ordinansa sa mga hindi sumusunod sa mga health protocol like wearing of face masks, yung physical distancing,” he said.

“Medyo paiigtingin natin 'yan. Patataasin po 'yung penalties,” he added.

The NCR is currently under general community quarantine (GCQ), where several restrictions on mobility are being imposed to avoid further transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

On Saturday, the Department of Health recorded 1,387 new infections— 918 are "fresh" or newly validated and 469 are late—bringing the nationwide tally to 54,222.

Among the fresh cases, 261 are from the National Capital Region, 62 are from Region VII, and 595 are from other areas across the country.

Also, among the late cases, 178 are from the National Capital Region, 15 are from Region VII, 276 are from other areas across the country. —LBG, GMA News
